6☆ Anniversary Date with Sariel - Sealed with a Kiss (以吻封缄) | Light and Night 光与夜之恋

6/12/2022 06:17:00 PM 0 Comments A+ a-

This date has no prologue, but there are some references from his previous cards. I'll link them in my translation notes as the translation progresses!

I will also add some personal memos and thoughts as the notes so it might help you to understand more context behind certain things in the story that you might miss out if you are not a Sariel stan, or if you're new about this game, or for other reasons. So this post is likely going to be a little lengthy because of how much of an emotional wreck I am whenever it comes to him.

It's a sweet card, so sweet that I actually cried a little but maybe that's just my attachment towards Sariel himself. They are like an old married couple despite not actually married haha! I hope you'll enjoy reading, despite the translation might not be perfect.

You can also check the recording of the card here, and I'll take my time to sub it after updating the translation here.

- Intro -

The bright afternoon suns pours through the gaps between the forest leaves, through the glass cabinet windows, and sprinkled over the white veil.

The light veil sways in the air along with the girl's movements, and returns the scattering golden light to the nature.

From a distant, this wonderful scene is what I'm seeing.

You: So beautiful...

Sariel: If I didn't remember wrongly, that veil is something you designed. Looks like your self-praising spirit has greatly improved recently.

You: I'm not talking about the veil alright, it's the overall atmosphere... Well of course, the veil is very beautiful too!

I looked towards Sariel in anticipation, wanting to receive an acknowledgment from him.

Sariel: I wouldn't say it's to the extents of "very beautiful", but it's not bad indeed.

Probably because I've been staring at him, he responded softly in a helpless manner. Gazing back to the cabinet windows, there are many people queueing beside the newly built exhibition booths awaiting to try on wedding dresses.

Three months ago, Diary, a brand under Warson, decided to organize a special theme park event as a celebration of the 30th anniversary since the brand's establishment.

The event is themed with "Nature", and the venue is set in this forest park, not only it offers free fitting and photography sessions for all participants, but there are also many interactive zones set up around here.

It's the first day of the event today. Sariel and I arrived the event venue, hoping to understand the feedback from the public towards this series of wedding dresses as soon as the event commences.

Judging from the smiles overflowing with happiness and anticipations by the booths, I can't help but to feel a little complacent.

You: It feels like everyone are looking pretty satisfied.

Sariel: It's a free trial of wedding dress after all. Unless if there's a situation that is really unbearable, people generally wouldn't have much opinions.

You: Hm, what you say makes sense too... then aren't we wasting our efforts to come here today?

Sariel: Although they aren't saying it, but you can see them with your own eyes. The same clothes will display different states and temperaments when different people wear them. They might perhaps look very good on draft papers, mannequins, or on models, but when it comes to the ordinary people that consists of the majority, certain carefully polished details might possibly become a touch of failure.

I digest Sariel's words as my gaze falls onto the participants with different body shapes and temperaments, then nodded in agreement.

You: No wonder you agreed as soon as I invited you to come to the event venue. Turns out that you've planed for an "outdoor lesson" since early on!

Sariel: This isn't completely the reason behind it.

You: Is there something else?

I tilted my head in doubt, only to see Sariel taking an event booklet from a rack by the roadside, and gently pointed on its cover with his fingertips.

You: Could there be... any activities that you particularly wanted to participate?

I felt a little surprised, immediately leaned forward, wanting to see what would the activity that even Sariel would be interested in.

Sariel: I'm not like a certain clumsy bird. I won't look fully anticipated whenever I'm in a meeting with the market research department.

You: Well that's because the events all look very interesting, and I wanted to give them all a try. But, wait, so are you saying that you actually wanted to accompany me to participate in those activities, and that's why--

Just then, the thin booklet is placed into my hands, and my line was interrupted.

Sariel: We don't have the time to "give them all a try". Let's first head to the main exhibition zone. As for where we're going later, you still have time to think about it.

You: Okay okay!

I carried the booklet in my hand, and nodded towards Sariel in anticipation.

The main exhibition zone is separated into two large zones, with one of them being the exhibition zone made of display windows, and the other is a fitting zone.

I could already feel the bustlings from the event venue by just looking from afar earlier, but by the time I've walked closer, that I can truly feel the embodiment of "people mountain, people sea*".

* This translation is actually a direct translated from a Chinese idiom 人山人海, but it appears that it has been used too much that it's apparently listed as an informal English (more like Chinglish?), just like "long time no see".

But fortunately, thanks to the staff of the event venue's orderly crowd control, everyone are chatting as they admire the clothes, and there aren't anyone displaying impatience.

After passing through layers of display booths to arrive the fitting zone, and even this zone is having a long queue.

Sariel and I originally had no plans to continue walking inwards, only to stand around the powder room and examine those couples that are done changing and are about to take commemorative pictures.

You: Uhm... the design on the sleeves's folds of that dress doesn't look very convenient. The angle of the opening of that pair of white heels looks a little weird, it feels like it doesn't look easy to walk with... Also the tie on that suit...

I observe the crowd trying on the wedding attires as I discussed about them with Sariel. Suddenly, a familiar wedding gown appeared in my sight.

The corners of my lips curved upwards uncontrollably, and I softly tugged Sariel's sleeve.

You: Sariel, do you see that wedding dress over there?

Sariel: Yeah. 12 changes has been made on it ever since a certain person's submission of her first draft, it's hard for me to even forget about it.

You: There's no need to emphasize that number alright...

I humphed sullenly, and placed my gaze onto the crowd once again to discover even more familiar designs.

There are wedding gowns that Mao Ge and Manman designed, tuxedo designed by Jiang Lai, and heels designed by Gao Cheng...

Just when I was about to take out my phone to take pictures for everyone, suddenly, a staff walked towards us.

Staff: May I ask if the two of you wants to try on-- Eh? Y/N?

I startled slightly and looked at the uniformed staff before me, and only then I realized that she's Hana, a colleague from the marketing department.

Hana: Y/N, Director Qi, what brings the two of you here? I thought Mya is the only one coming from the design center. She's now over the booth, there will be a media interview an hour later. Are you both lost? I'll lead the way.

You: But we...

Sariel: No need, just leave the interview to her. We still have other things to do.

Just when I was contemplating on how to explain to Hana, I didn't expect Sariel to speak before me.

He quietly held my wrist, as though he's worried that Hana would take me away.

Hana: Other things?

Hearing so, Hana's expression became a little confused for a moment.

Her gaze slowly moved down, falling on my wrist, and as though she suddenly understood something, she widened her eyes in surprise.

Hana: Could the both of you wanting to try on the wedding attire?

You: Eh?!

The change of the topic happened too quickly, that I could see the slight frown over Sariel's brows from the corners of my eyes, so I quickly interrupted Hana.

You: No, we're just here to look at the live venue's response, then experiencing the interaction activities that you all arranged afterwards!

Hana: So the two of you are preparing to participate the experiencing activities after getting changed! That's true, many couples do this too, it is more memorable after all.

You: I know, but...

Hana: Aiya, actually I had the feeling that the two of you are very close, I didn't imagine that the two of you are really... Don't worry, my lips are tightly shut! I won't tell anyone else! I'll explain to everyone else for you when you're fitting later. I'll just say that you are both representing the design center to participate the activities and provide some feedback.

She seems to have imagined a lot of things on her own, that the expression on her face looks just like how Manman would look when she's marathoning dramas.

Perhaps affected by her emotions, the thought of "how about I drag Sariel to try it out" flashed before my mind for a second, but after thinking about it, it's better for me to forget about it.

A long queue, change of attire, makeup... everything will be time-consuming. Even I can't help but to find it a little troublesome, and it'd be even more so for Sariel.

But looking at how excited Hana is, it feels like she would never listen to me no matter what I say.

So I can only turn towards this "sago cyca*" tree that is rumored by every colleague around me-- Sariel will definitely find it troublesome, and he'll decline it straightforwardly, right?

*Reference to Chapter 2-05  and 11-05. The tree rarely blooms, just like how everyone says Sariel rarely smile.

I'm only seeing the "sago cyca" Sariel maintaining his decade-long cold expression, and took a glance across the booth's direction.

After a short silence, he spoke in a frown.

Sariel: This queue is too long.

You: ?

Is this the main point? I became little confused all of a sudden, and it seems the same for Hana too. But very quickly, she responded before I could.

Hana: The queue is indeed a little long, but it's fine, as the designer, of course you have priority. Wait for a moment, I'll make arrangements for you two right away!

As soon as she drops her sentence, Hana ran fast in excitement.

On the other hand, I've only just returned to my senses, and looked towards Sariel in confusion and surprise.

Sariel: What are you looking at me for?

You: Nothing, I just didn't expect you to agree to it... I thought you'd definitely find it troublesome.

Sariel: It's quite troublesome indeed.

Sariel looks towards the crowd in the long queue, and showed his agreement in a rare manner.

You: You're still in time to regret it now, how about I talk to Hana about it?

Sariel: I'm only saying that it's troublesome, I didn't say I regret it. As for you, you looked like you were very unwilling earlier.

I subconsciously shook my head like a rattle drum.

You: Not at all! I'm 10000% willing!

Perhaps it's because he never expected me to respond this greatly, Sariel widened his eyes in shock, stares at me for a while, and only then he softly lowers his head, and it seems like there's a faint smile exuding from the corners of his lips.

Sariel: Understood, you don't have to be so loud next time, I can hear you.

We only stayed there for a short moment, and very quickly, we saw Hana squeezing out from the crowd not far away from us.

She leads us directly towards the deepest changing room through the staff passage.

You: Uh, we haven't chose which set to change into--

Before I can finish my question, Hana took out a set of attire that I can't get more familiar with.

Inspired by layered cake, combining elements of liveliness, cheekiness and elegance together, then embellish the details of the veil and the hem with embroidery and jacquard engraving.

This is "June Bride", the wedding gowns I designed.

I've designed different wedding gowns for this event, but "June Bride" is the only gown I've designed a matching suit for it.

Hana: I've heard from my friends in the design center, that designers all wish to wear the attires they designed for their wedding. It should also be the same for you, correct?

Hana leaned by my ear, whispering as she winks at me.

In a late realization, I feel my cheeks burning a little, but I still can't help but to nod.

You: Yeah, thank you.

Carrying the wedding gown into the fitting room, I can't help but to recall the scenes throughout my time designing this set of wedding attire.

According to plans, there was originally no need for me to design the male's attire for this event.

But when I was making amendments on the details of "June Bride" with Sariel, the sunlight was really wonderful.

When I saw the sunlight pouring onto his hair when he was lowering his head as he caresses the mesh on the hem, at that instant, I suddenly had the idea to design a suit.

In the past, whenever I begin to draw a draft, there will be a most suitable model in my mind.

And when I draw that set of suit, Sariel is the only person that has always been in my mind from the beginning till the end.

Upon wearing the veil for myself with some difficulty, I took a deep breath, and opened the door of the fitting room.

Sariel has already gotten changed. Probably hearing movements, he turned around, and our gazes met.

A pure white tailcoat, with only a hint of ink color around the collar, with the golden pupils, and pairing with the sunlight reflecting from within, the sight really makes me unwilling to gaze away.

I stood right where I am without moving, and only returned to my senses when Sariel walked towards me.

You: I'm sorry, I was--

Before I can finish my sentence, I felt some warmth over my temples.

Sariel: You can even wear a veil wrongly. Or did you secretly changed its style without me knowing it?

You: How could that even be possible...

The chapel veil is romantic, classical and filled with sense of ceremony, but whether it's wearing or walking with it, it's somehow inconvenient.

Sariel helped me to put the veil properly, but his fingertips never moved, and instead gently caressing the white jacquard embroidery.

Sariel: It's better to change it to a fingertip* veil next time.

* A veil of multiple layers, with the length of 38-40". It's short so it's much more convenient.

You: Yeah, I find it a little too long as well.

After responding, I only found out that something sounds odd. Did Sariel say "next time" just now?

When will my next chance of wearing a wedding gown be?

The two words of "wedding ceremony" flashed by my mind, that I could feel my cheeks burning subconsciously.

Thank goodness someone knocked the door. Sariel turned around, and didn't notice my flustering cheeks.

Hana: You're both done changing? Let me bring you to the powder room thne.

You: Okay.

Although I had experience in photoshoots and catwalks, but I am feeling particularly nervous today. Sitting on the seat, my gaze can't help itself but to drift towards Sariel.

Makeup Artist: Oh dear, so impatient already? Almost there!

You: I- I wasn't.

With a reminder from the smiling makeup artist, I quickly kept my gaze back, but I still can't help to fluster and continue looking at the reflection in the mirror.

Perhaps overhearing our conversation, Sariel too, looked towards my reflection in the mirror.

He moved his lips. I quickly identified seriously, and he said--

Sariel: What are you looking at, clumsy bird.

I scrunched, and refuted in unwillingness to admit defeat.

You: I wasn't even looking...

Unsure if it's my misperception, it seems like I've heard an extremely light chuckle.

As what the makeup artist said, the hairstyle and makeup is done very quickly.

In the corridor, there are many couples taking selfies after getting changed. I picked up my hem, walked on the heels, and walked through the crowd with some difficulties.

Sariel: This pair of heels are a little too tall, you can still make it if you change it now.

You: But this pair is prettier, and it's less likely to step on the veil with taller heels.

I responded sullenly, and looked towards Sariel in slight grievance, but I can only see an arm extended towards me.

Sariel: Walk slower then. So a certain someone won't feel embarrassing to think about what happened today*.

*In case if anyone is confused or misunderstands him, he's basically implying that MC might trip and fall and finds it embarrassing even after decades later

You: No I won't...

Though that being said, I still held Sariel's hand naturally.

Because of the separation by the glove, the touch on my palm isn't very clear. But I could still feel the continuous warmth passing from our interlocked fingers.

Just like that, we held our hands as we walked through the corridor, and we don't look any different from the couples around us.

We're now done changing, so we can now be the same as the rest to enjoy the event. Well then, where should we go first?

- Choice: Where should we go next? -

Calling: To the lakeside

Intimacy: To the souvenir shop

Heartthrob (1): To the interactive game zone

Heartthrob (2): To the garden photography zone

- Do Nothing -

The forest park itself has many noteworthy sceneries, with the various kinds of activities available in the event, I can't help but to have trouble in my choices.

You: The park is so huge, how about we just simply stroll around? Ah, of course I'm not talking about strolling across the entire park!

Sariel: Of course I know what you mean, let's go.

Because we have no fixed aim, we slowed down our steps, and enjoyed the scenery as we stroll around.

Besides us, there are also many couples in wedding attires on our way, and of course there are also many ordinary tourists.

Wishes of "congratulations on your marriage" are constantly heard, and everyone are smiling in happiness.

I quietly looked at Sariel who's now by my side, and I subconsciously smiled too.

- Calling: To the lakeside-

You: You've seen the booklet's cover just now right? It's so beautiful. How about we stroll by the lakeside?

The area of this forest park where this event is held is very big, and there are also quite a lot of scenic spots too. The central lake area is the most popular among these sceneries.

By the time we arrived the lakeside, there are already many people coming for how famous this place is. Some are taking photos, and some have began rowing boats right on the lake's surface.

The white veils gently lifted by the winds, pairing with the sparkles of the waves, it looks just like an oil painting.

I felt a little tempted from the sight, suddenly recalling something, and looked towards Sariel right away.

You: Sariel, do you remember that we boarded a boat when we were in Kyoto*?

*It's a reference from his battlepass date.

Sariel: I remember. Besides boarding a boat, I also remembered someone being all excited over the sight of a squirrel.

You: Can't you remember anything good about me? Jeez...

Sariel: Whether good or bad, I remember them all.

As he speaks, he looks towards the lake, seemingly reminiscing the past from his gaze, as though it has traveled past time to a year ago, and saw the time we spent together on the boat.

You: Since it's such a rare opportunity, shall we board a boat again?

Sariel: I notice that you can always propose some weird suggestions at the most unsuitable times.

You: What's unsuitable about it? This is a recommended activity from the booklet, also there are so many people doing it, it means it's something worth experiencing for!

Sariel: These aren't what the unsuitable things I was talking about, I was talking about your attire. You were wearing yukata paired with geta, and now it's wedding gown paired with high heels. I suppose you're going to drag me to a boat in an evening dress next time.

You: Now that you put it that way, it does seem to be the case... but it's a special case today, and everyone else are also boarding a boat in wedding dresses too, it's fine. As for evening dress, if there's a chance again next time, it's not like we can't give it a try anyway, it feels kinda interesting too, no?

I smiled at Sariel, and imagined the scene where we're dressed in evening gowns, boating on the lake in night, where the skies and the surface of the lake are filled with twinkling stars.

Sariel did not respond to me, only looking towards the mini dock by the lakeside.

Sariel: Hurry and go if you want to, so it won't be filled with people later.

You: Roger!

Very quickly, we boarded on a little wooden boat. Because I'm wearing high heels, the progress of boarding the boat is a little difficult, but thankfully, Sariel was there to hold me throughout the entire time.

The lake's surface is much cooling than the shore, the coolness of the lake waters wafted along with the summer winds, that I can't help but to close my eyes and take a deep breath.

You: So comfortable--

Before my tone disappears, the winds suddenly changed its direction, and my veil is messed.

You: Whoa!

In an instant, my line of gaze is filled with whiteness. I tried my best to tidy my veil, but because I wasn't able to see clearly, I have no idea where to begin with.

Looks like I can only call Sariel for help...!

- Try calling out to him!-

- Outcome 1: Say gibberish-

Sariel: I heard you. Don't move for now.

Hearing the familiar voice, I subconsciously stopped my unruly hands, and quietly waiting for Sariel's "rescue".

It didn't take long for the obstructing veil to be removed, and obediently returning to the back of my head.

You: That was so scary... Ah, did the veil break?

Sariel: Don't worry, it hasn't for now.

You: What do you mean for now, you're talking as though it's about to break soon...

I looked towards Sariel in grievance, and caressed at my efforts that I almost destroyed with my own hands.

Sariel: If you're still looking around mindlessly, I suppose it's not far away to be broken.

You: Then... how about we get back to the shore early?

Sariel: Okay, while we aren't far away from the shore.

I looked towards the crowd that are still boating on the lake with some regret, and secretly made up my mind that I must change into a shorter veil next time.

- Outcome 2: Call him by his name (Qi Si Li)-

Sariel: Wait a little, it'll be okay soon.

Although I can't see clearly, but the familiar voice still made me feel reassured, and the tugging movements in my hand have all stopped.

Very quickly, with Sariel's help, the veil has obediently return to the back of my head.

You: Thank you, looks like I have to be a little more careful next time...

Thankfully, after the short episode, the winds on the lake became much weaker.

Gradually, my attention has also returned to the scenery before my eyes.

You: Sariel, did you see that fish? Is that a koi fish?

He took a glance towards where I've pointed, and responded softly.

Sariel: So are you going to make a wish now?

You: Eh? How did you know?

Sariel: Did you forget who was the one forwarding me an image of koi fish, that says "I heard that this is very effective recently, you'll get good luck if you forward it".

You: But what if it really does bring good luck? How about let's try wishing at it and see if either of our wishes will come true?

*These two are really sounding like a boomer couple LMAO

Sariel: I'm not desperate to the extents where I have to leave my hope to a fish.

You: Now that you put it this way, it makes sense too... well, forget it then.

Sariel looks at me a little surprised.

Sariel: I didn't expect you to give up so quickly this round.

You: Because I suddenly can't think of what wish to make too. At this moment, I feel very happy. If I really have to make a wish, then I hope that every day from now on will be just as happy as today.

Looking at the koi that is gradually swimming away, after a short silence, I heard Sariel's voice from my side.

Sariel: It'll come true.

A warmth solely belonging to him passes through our tightly interlaced hands, even under the midsummer suns, I'm still feeling unwilling to let it go.

- Outcome 3: Call him 'hubby' or 'baby' or 'love' (in Chinese)-

Sariel: Don't move for now, it'll be okay soon.

The familiar voice falls by my ears, uttering comforting words, that I subconsciously stopped my disobedient hands, and obediently sat where I was at.

Accompanied by some rustles, a few second later, my world has finally returned to normal.

You: I almost couldn't breathe... Ah, the veil isn't broken or is it?!

It's a veil that I've spent multiple all-nighters to complete, I wouldn't want it to be "sacrificed" just like that, so I quickly turned around and begin inspecting.

Sariel: It's not broken. Do you happen to think that everyone are as clumsy as you?

You: You can't blame me on this one, the winds acted first.

I looked at him with a puffy face, and Sariel held his arms, as though he's about to say something. Just then, yet another breeze brushes over.

The white veil flutters again. I immediately wanted to reach an arm out to catch it, but instead, I heard a reminder by my ear.

Sariel: Watch out.

Due to the movement of the center of gravity, the wooden boat wobbled unsteadily. I didn't sit well, and fell forward all of a sudden.

Thankfully, right on the next second, a sandalwood-scented embrace encircled me tightly.

Sariel: Still not admitting that you're clumsy? Who are you going to blame this to now, still the wind?

You: I'm not blaming anyone this time, I wasn't seated properly...

I straightened myself bashfully, and tidied my veil again.

Sariel stared at me for a while, sighed helplessly, then changed his seat from the opposite side towards my side.

You: What's wrong? Do you want to look at the scenery over that side too?

Sariel: The sceneries are all about the same.

Then why is he purposely changing seats for? Just when I was about to ask him again, just then, there's yet another breeze brushing over.

But the breeze this time is much weaker than earlier, and my veil isn't messed.

And Sariel's hair on the other hand, is fluttering in the midsummer winds, rippling in a beautiful radiance.

I immediately understood the reason behind it, and it feels like theres as though a breeze brushing across my heart, carrying a never-ending ripple within.

-Intimacy: To the souvenir shop-

I was actually attracted by the page with the souvenir shop listed on the booklet when I was browsing it just now.

As a brand for wedding attire, Diary will also release various kinds of commemorative products on important events such as anniversaries, Valentine's day, tanabata and the sort.

Products such as necklace and perfumes released in the past are all very delicate and well-received from their packaging to the products themselves.

You: How about we first head to the souvenir shop?

Sariel: Souvenir shop? So this is the "activity" that you've chosen carefully?

You: No no, I'm just thinking that we can have a look over there before we participate the park activities. The commemorative products are all limited edition, they'll be gone if we're late.

Just as expected, there are already a lot of customers picking the products by the time we arrived the shop.

You: Let's hurry up too!

I lifted my long hem, and just when I was about to "rush" into the shop, suddenly, someone walked past us, so I quickly dodged backwards in fear that he would step on my hem or my veil.

Almost at the same time, Sariel's hand held my shoulder, and I am seeing right into his worried gaze as soon as I turn back.

Sariel: Are you that eager for it? Who was the one promising me to walk slower just now?

You: It's because someone suddenly dashed out... I won't do that anymore, I promise.

Sariel shows an expression that says "I don't believe in you". I blinked at him, letting go of my hem from one hand, then held his hand.

You: Moreover, you're here to hold my hand anyway.

Sariel frowns slightly, placing his hand back to his side. His fingertips moved, but he didn't let go.

Sariel: Alright, let's go.

Although this souvenir shop isn't considered large in size, but it has a rich variety of products.

You: Turns out they have perfumes this year too.

My attention got taken away by a small bottle of delicately packaged perfume. The mint green, transparent glass has relief* of vines, with leaves on its top cut from organza**, and a lily of the valley outlined by silver thread.

*A sculptural method in which the sculpted pieces are bonded to a solid background of the same material.

*Organza is a thin, plain weave, sheer fabric traditionally made from silk.

It is very fitting to the "Nature" theme for this event, that it makes one to feel like they are in a secret garden with just a glance.

I recalled the plants Sariel planted in his garden, and I can't help but to lean forward to learn about the scents of this perfume.

You: A woody floral scent... Uh, is the bottom note sandalwood..?

It's as though I could smell the familiar fragrance from the tip of my nose as soon as I mutter the word 'sandalwood'.

You: What do you think of this?

I gently sprayed a little on a strip of perfume testing paper, and handed it towards Sariel.

Sariel: The scent is very simple, it's basically consisting of mostly woody scents. But its inclusivity isn't bad, it won't feel odd regardless who or where it's used.

You: Wait, you're saying "basically consisting of mostly woody scents"... Can you tell the kind of smells from it?

Sariel took another whiff and named out a couple of scents. I quickly compared them to the introduction of the perfume, and noticed that he has gotten all of them right.

You: That's impressive!

Sariel: I was only telling the scents I can smell, the scent of this perfume isn't too faint after all.

You: But people in general can't smell all of the notes in an instant.

I took a sniff, and suddenly recalled something.

You: Ah! Could it be that you're an Erda, so your sense of smell is sharper? Since foxes are canines after all...

Sariel: ......

Noticing that Sariel's expression is getting increasingly odd, I quickly smiled and switched the topic of conversation.

You: Uh, I think this perfume smells pleasant, I'll buy a bottle over there okay!

After the staff packed the perfume for me, Sariel's expression has also returned to normal. We continued to shop for other products in the shop.

Suddenly, a tint of gold appeared in my line of sight. I walked to the display counter to notice that it's a pair of ring.

The circle is made into a vine-like shape, tangling and circling, but it oddly forms into a sense of balance, and as for its middle, it's a small golden-green cat's-eye embellished within as the finishing touch.

Just like the pair of golden eyes of the person by my side, it attracted my attention very easily.

Staff: Would the two of you like to try on the ring?

Just when I was thinking of leaning in to have a closer look, a staff has inquired me in smiles.

She carefully takes out the pair of couple's ring. The male ring is pushed towards me, and the female ring is pushed towards Sariel.

I thought the staff has mistaken it, and just when I was about to voice out a reminder, she has smiled and made a gesture instead.

Staff: It's a coincidence that you are both dressed in wedding attire, how about you put the rings on for each other? How about considering it as a simulation of the ring exchange segment in a wedding ceremony?

Hearing the term "wedding ceremony" makes my heartbeat to subconsciously accelerate, that I can't help but to feel anticipated.

With a soft cough, I turned my head sideways towards Sariel who's by my side.

You: Do you want to give it a try?

Although I've tried my best to make my tone sound relaxed and natural, but my voice still sounded a little nervous as soon as I speak.

Sariel didn't answer me, and just when I was thinking he's going to reject me, he have instead reached out for the female ring before him.

Sariel: Give me your hand.

Nodding as I was stunned, I quickly gave him my left hand.

You: Just put it on the middle finger...

Before I can finish, a cooling sense is felt from my ring finger. And what contrasts it is the warmth from Sariel's palm gently holding my fingertips.

Sariel: If it's in a wedding ceremony, then it should be worn here.

The ring on the end of my finger, the warmth from the palm, and the breath within an arm's reach, I can't help but to feel like I'm in a trance with everything happening at once.

It feels like I'm really in a wedding ceremony, where we are exchanging a ring that will forever belong to us.

Right, exchange! I had to hurry to put it on Sariel too.

I returned to my senses, and reached out for the ring on the display counter in a panic--

- Try helping him to put on the ring!-

- Outcome 1: Tap anywhere else but his left hand-

[Tap on his hair] ... I don't know what you're tiptoeing and touching around for.

[Tap on his shoulder] What's wrong, is the bowtie slanted?

[Tap on his chest] You're putting on a ring, not opening a button.

Perhaps it was due to my nervousness, I didn't manage to hold the ring well.

Seeing that the ring is almost falling onto the counter, a hand appeared just in time, and caught it into his palm in time.

Sariel: I suppose it's better for me to put it on myself.

You: Okay...

I feel a little regretful, but I didn't force a request on him either, since I wasn't holding it well just now anyway.

Sariel took a glance at my hand, paused, and wears the ring at the same spot on his hand.

Seeing that he has put it on too, I quickly reached my left hand out towards him, and placed the two rings very close to each other.

Sariel: What are you doing?

You: It's more convenient to admire it like this.

Staff: Oh dear, it looks really suitable on both of you, is the size perfect too?

I looked again, and I find the staff's saying being very logical. Sariel does look very good when he wear it. Of course, this ring on me looks pretty good as well.

By the time I walked out the souvenir shop with the ring case, I can feel myself being in an incomparably great mood.

Sariel: Does it make you that happy?

You: Yeah! Thank goodness the ring's size is suitable, otherwise it'd be a great pity if we can't buy it. Actually, I had my eyes it at first glance. This golden-green cat's-eye in the middle is very beautiful, it's just like your eyes.

The golden pupils widened slightly. Sariel averted his gaze, and only to speak again after quite a while has passed.

Sariel: You are definitely the first person that buys a ring for a reason like this.

You: So what if that's the case, it'll do as long as I'm happy, no?

As I speak, I can't help but to open the ring box to admire it again, and suddenly noticed that there's a short poem printed on the side of the box.

You: "My heart, the bird of the wilderness, has found its sky in your eyes.*"

*It's a poem from Rabindranath Tagore's "The Gardener"

As I softly reads the poem out, I can't help but to look towards Sariel.

In the familiar pair of eyes, reflects the clear summer skies, and also me smiling in a wedding dress.

- Outcome 2: Tap on his left hand-

[Tap on his left hand] Until death do us apart... Is this what you wish to hear from me?

I took out the ring, without much hesitation, and just like how Sariel did, I put the ring onto his left ring finger.

His fingers are really slender and well-defined. Complemented with the platinum ring, his skin looks even whiter. But it's not the pale kind of white, but instead it's a kind of beautiful, cloud-like soft white color.

You: It's done...

Sariel: Mm.

The large hand and small hand are placed very close to each other. The same ring is worn on the ring finger of our left hands, it's just like a voiceless pledge.

Staff: Both of you look great with the ring, I suppose the size is also perfect. Perhaps this is what fate is, otherwise this lady right here wouldn't set her eyes on this pattern at first glance, correct?

The staff smiles at us, with sincere wishes filled her gaze.

Staff: Then allow me to wish the two of you a happy marriage in advance. I believe that the two rings will definitely accompany the both of you throughout the rest of your lives.

You: T- Thank you!

I felt a little carried away by her words, and terms like "happy marriage" and "the rest of your lives" filled my head completely.

By the time we left the counter upon purchase, I've finally came into a late realization of something.

You: Wait a second. Sariel, I suddenly realized something. Did we fall into some kind of sales scheme just now? Why do I have a feeling that she would say this to anyone who tries on their rings?

Sariel: Is it very important if it is? Would you not buy it if that's the case?

I looked at the ring box in my hand, gave it a thought, then shook my head.

You: You're right. Let the scheme be a scheme then, it doesn't matter much too. Just as you always said, it's not bad to be silly once in a while, right?

I smiled at him, wanting to receive his acknowledgment, but I didn't expect Sariel to slightly droop his gaze.

Sariel: Don't mistaken it, you're the only one that acted silly. I only bought it because I wanted to buy it.

You: Eh? So that means... Did you plan to buy it as a gift for me to begin with?

Sariel: ... It's fine for you to understand it this way too.

My heartbeat accelerated right on the spot. Looking into that pair of golden pupils, in an instant, there's only a single thought in mind.

I'm willing to believe in what the staff said. From the moment we gift the rings to each other, we will definitely be spending the long journey of the rest of our lives together.

- Heartthrob (1): To the interactive game zone-

You: Sariel, let's have a look at the interactive game zone. I saw the introduction just now, looks like there's a mysterious gift if we participate the activity!

Filled with anticipation, Sariel and I arrived the interactive game zone.

Comparing it to the main exhibition zone, it's less crowded here, and I can finally stop holding my hem carefully, and no longer needing to be on guard for people walking past me.

You: There's an introduction of the event over here... Huh, we can only participate it through registration?

Sariel walked towards my side and reads the activity rules listed on the poster with me.

The entire interactive activity are separated into three rounds, consisting of a round of Q&A, a round of drawing, and a challenge of tacit.

You: Couples who successfully complete all three rounds will receive a mysterious reward specially prepared by the organizers.

I muttered as I read out the rules on the poster. Just then, a staff noticed us and walked towards us.

Staff: Would the two of you like to register to participate our activity? You can receive a prize from participating!

As she speaks, she pointed towards a beautifully decorated display counter with many transparent gift boxes of various kinds on it, but there isn't the so-called mysterious reward stated.

You: May I ask what this "mysterious reward" is about?

Staff: I'm sorry, this isn't something we can reveal now. How about giving the activity a try, who knows you might pass smoothly and receive the reward?

I didn't expect them to be secretive to such extents, this has definitely pulled the strings of my curious heart.

I immediately looked towards Sariel, who is now standing by my side.

You: Let's register and participate, please?

Sariel: You don't even know what the reward is, and you're going to participate it?

You: I want it even more exactly because I don't know what it is! It's probably the "charms of the unknown"?

Sariel: I'll remind you this. Even if you participate it, you might not be able to get that prize.

You: Well we can still get other prizes too. Didn't the staff just said that we'll receive a reward if we participate? Moreover, I trust Director Qi, that these three minigames will be a piece of cake to you!

Sariel: ... You'll always have a bunch of weird excuses.

Sariel no longer says anything else, only to look towards the game rules again, and to my surprise, his expression exudes some seriousness.

With the help of the staff, we registered, and after approximately a ten-minute wait, the activity has officially begun.

The people participating the event is much more than I've anticipated. I roughly gave it a count, there are almost over 30 pairs of couples, and all of them are looking hyped.

The first round is a Q&A competition. The host will ask some questions regarding "wedding ceremony", and everyone has to answer on their answering boards.

As long as all five questions are answered correctly, then they will be qualified to enter the next round.

You: I'm suddenly feeling a little nervous... They won't come up with some extremely tricky questions, right?

Sariel: Weren't you the confident one when you registered for the activity? Suddenly becoming nervous now? The important thing is the participation, they won't eliminate most people in the first round.

You: Yeah, what you said makes sense too...

Moreover, even if I really couldn't answer it, I can still copy your answer. I quietly furnished the other half of my sentence in my mind without voicing it out.

Host: First question. Does everyone know what the couple will reply after the priest finishes asking the question in a Western wedding?

You: It's really super simple, Sariel, you have indeed guessed correctly.

Sariel: It's just the first question, don't be happy too early. Hurry and write it down.

I nodded, and quickly wrote "I do" on the answer board, then turned my head towards Sariel.

He has also just finished writing, with the words appearing on his answering board, written in a beautifully powerful manner, where each and every stroke looking as though they were written in a particularly serious manner.

The host announces the answering time for this question has ended. The other participants have also revealed their answers one after another. After confirmation from the staff, it's announced that everyone have answered this question correctly.

Host: Congratulations, well then, everyone, under the witness of the priest, please tell your partner the answers you've written!

I widened my eyes in surprise. I did not expect an interaction like this to be set after answering the question.

Commotion sounded across the venue as well. A priest appeared by the host, greeted us with a nod, and requested us to face our partners with hand in hand.

I thought I've already gotten used to holding hands, but when I saw Sariel's face that is so close within an arm's reach and his drooping eyelashes, my heart still can't help but to beat faster.

It feels... just like a real wedding ceremony.

Priest: Bride, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband? To have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, and for other reasons. That you would love and cherish him, comfort him, honor him, accept him, and be unwaveringly loyal to him, until parted by death?

You: I- I do.

Perhaps it's because I'm really overly nervous, my voice trembled a little, that my fingers being held by Sariel curled a little.

Sariel: You're too nervous. When the real wedding comes, will I have to also remind you to breathe too?

You: Eh?

My heart felt like it has skipped a beat. I looked up and stared at him in a trance. Just then, the priest asks the question to the groom.

I looked towards the pair of golden pupils. Sariel gazes at me, and he looked more serious than any other moments in the past.

Sariel: I do.

I thought I'll be even more nervous and panicked because of what he said, but the oddly wonderful thing is, I've instead calmed down.

These uttered words are just like a form of comfort, a line of affirmation, telling me that there's no need to be nervous.

He will always be here, and he'll be here forever.

The interactive session ended, and the priest exits the venue. The host then continued asking a few more simple questions.

For instance, which fingers are wedding rings generally worn at, and also things like the general colors of wedding dresses are.

Host: Everyone answered the questions correctly. Well then, the next question will have increased difficulty. The fifth question, when did "marrying in a white wedding gown" become a trend?

When the question is asked, everyone began discussing in an instant. Everyone find the difficulty suddenly being raised too much.

The organizer has also probably understood it, so this is not an open end question, but a multiple choice question.

Because I've been working on making veils previously, I've researched on many documents, so I have some impression regarding the history of wedding gowns.

You: I recall it being somewhere around... the 19th century?

I looked towards Sariel with uncertainty, and he nodded lightly.

Sariel: In the mid nineteenth century, and more accurately, year 1840.

You: You remember so well!

I exclaimed as I wrote my answer on the answering board. After a while, I suddenly recalled something, and became a little curious.

You: Sariel, have you designed a wedding gown for anyone in the past?

Although I knew he has been a designer for a very long time, that it's unavoidable for him to design various kinds of apparels throughout his long career time.

But out of the bits of my selfishness, I still hoped for a "no" as Sariel's answer.

However, Sariel has nodded lightly.

Sariel: There were twice.

You: I see... when did they happen?

Sariel: It's been very long ago. The first time... do you remember about Vesi*?

* Referenced in his trajectory card, as well as main story chapter 12 where he was accused for plagiarism.

I nodded.

Sariel: Back then, someone requested me to design a set of wedding attire for his wedding ceremony. I founded Vesi throughout the progress of creating the set of attire. You can take it as the brand is birthed from the set of attire.

You: Then it must be a set of very important attire, I really wished to see how they look like.

Sariel did not continue the conversation immediately. He drooped his gaze, and spoke again after a moment of silence.

Sariel: The set of attire wasn't completed.

You: Why is that? Did something happen?

Sariel: The person who commissioned me to make the dress was involved in an accident. The wedding was cancelled. As for the second time, I made a wedding dress from another request*. From my current taste, the fabric for that dress isn't considered good, the design was also very simple. But the client likes it very much. It's just that, she didn't manage to marry the person she wanted to marry in the end.

*This dress is likely the one A Xin requested, but Sariel didn't take any payment in the end. You can read it from his trajectory card.

You: ......

Looking at Sariel's expression, I understood that there are probably two heavy stories behind these two sets of attire.

So I stopped asking further, and lowered my head slightly.

You: Actually, I've been looking forward to this event when I heard about Diary's event. I wanted to look how a wedding dress you designed would look like. I was also thinking, who knows I might be able to wear a wedding dress you designed... So when you told me you wouldn't be participating this time, I find it a pity. But now that I think of it, it's actually fine too.

I fixed my veil a little, and smiled towards Sariel.

You: I'm also a designer after all! So in the future, we can also wear the attire I design, just like how we are right now. Moreover, this set of attire isn't coming from my own efforts. You've provided me with so much help, so it's considered a work that we completed together, right?

I don't wish for him to fall into his heavy memories of the past, so I've purposely worded it this way.

Sariel looks at me, and his expressions seemed to have really relaxed a lot.

Sariel: If you're going to put it that way, then you should also add my name onto all of your design drafts in the past.

You: As a internationally famous designer and the designing director of Warson... why are you calculative over things like this?

Sariel: You're the one that brought up the topic.

The atmosphere between us feels as though it has returned to how we usually are. Just then, the answering time has also ended.

We entered the next round successfully. After all 10 questions are answered, there are only about half of the participants left.

Host: The second round is "drawing". Everyone will have to draw your "dream wedding" with your lover. Then the tourists of the venue will be voting, where the five couples with the highest votes can enter the next round.

You: Let's roughly draw a venue.

I took out a tube of blue paint from the paint box. Just when I was about to draw the blue skies, I suddenly realized something, and looked around.

You: Everyone are drawing a clear day of blue skies, it doesn't feel anything special... how about we draw dusk?

Sariel: I haven't seen anyone that actually starts a wedding ceremony in the evening.

You: The others have their own ways of acting, and we have our own ways as well. "A Dusk Wedding Ceremony", don't you find this particularly romantic too?

Sariel pondered a little, unwilling to comment anything on it, and only handing a tube of red paint towards me.

The faint red dusk gradually takes its shape under my brush. Looking at the still blank grounds, I had an idea, and began drawing with white paint.

Sariel: Are you drawing white sea urchins?

You: It's Princess of the Night* alright! What's with you for calling it a white sea urchin...

* Epiphyllum, princess of the night, queen of the night. Sariel's signature flower.

Although I'm unwilling to admit it, but that being said by Sariel, I am also thinking that what I drew looks a little similar to a sea urchin too.

Just when I'm feeling a little troubled, a warmth approached me from behind.

Sariel placed my veil behind my ear, stood by my side, and raised an arm to hold the brush in my hand.

Separated by the thin glove, I could feel the warmth from his palm.

With each and every stroke, he leads my movements, and a white Princess of the Night appeared on the paper.

Sariel: A Princess of the Night looks like this. Haven't you seen it for many times?

*The first time she confronts him (Chapter 1-16), the time he allowed the entire mountain of Princess of the Night to bloom to cure her dizziness (Chapter 4-16), his birthday event (Episode 5), the armguard from his topup card (Woven Heart of a Millennium), the times he made desserts with the flower (Reunion Life After Life)... there are more (like the cooking event that I didn't manage to translate welp).

You: Yeah... Although I've seen them, but to draw it so freely is still a little difficult.

I simply blurted it out, then looked at the Princess of the Night on the paper, hoping for Sariel to demonstrate it to me again by drawing another one.

You: Can you--

Before I can finish my sentence, because just when I turned my head away, a faint scent of the Princess of the Night filled my nose.

Uncertain when it happened, but a small Princess of the Night bloomed* in Sariel's palm, swaying a little in the gentle midsummer breezes.

*I'm not sure if this might be the first time you read a translation from my blog, but just in case you're new to the game, Sariel has a Talent that allows plants to grow as long as he gets a hold onto a part of the plant due to his regenerative abilities. It's likely that he is carrying some petals of the Princess of the Night in his pocket in case if anything happens, especially when his health isn't completely recovered (refer Chapter 12 and also Chapter 13), where he is degenerating and upon the touch of his fox ear, MC gets dizzy unless she smells the scent of the petals of the said flower (refer here).

Sariel: Can you remember it now? Of how a Princess of the Night looks like.

I nodded, carefully receiving the flower, as though I'm holding onto an obscure yet also an extremely grand love.

Sariel and I drew stroke by stroke, and very quickly, this "dream wedding" is completed very quickly.

A faint dusk, Princess of the Night that blooms throughout the mountain, paired with the delicately design wedding attires that flows well, it looks particularly eye-catching among the other paintings of blue skies, and allowed us to successfully enter the final round.

Staff: In the final round, it'll be the test of your tacit.

The staff brings two tall display boards to the center of the venue, where there are many postcards placed on each of the boards, with sceneries, people, and even images like cartoon and more printed on them.

Host: The bride and the groom has to choose their favorite postcards respectively. Of course, you will both be separated throughout the process, and you can't communicate. If you have both chosen the same theme, then the challenge is considered successful!

You: There are at least 100 postcards here, isn't that a little too difficult...?

I stared at the display board before us, unsure of where to begin with, I can't help but to look towards Sariel on the opposite display board. He's now drooping his gaze, seemingly deep in his thoughts.

You: Sariel's favorite things... drinking tea? Or listening to crosstalks? Uh, it doesn't seem like there are postcards of this theme.

I frowned, feeling perplexed. Suddenly, a faint tint of redness appeared in the corner of my eye.

You: It's dusk...

With only a few seconds of hesitation, I reached my arm out, and held that postcard tightly in my hand.

Very quickly, the selection time has ended. I placed the postcard into the envelope provided by the organizer, and stood with Sariel once again.

You: Sariel, what did you pick?

I looked at Sariel's calm expression, and gulped nervously.

Sariel (clears throat): Look at it yourself.

He speaks as he handed the envelope to me.

You: Wait, wait! I'm a little nervous, h-... how about you look at mine instead?

Sariel: Is there any difference?

Though that being said, but Sariel still took my envelope. Watching him opening the envelope, I can't help but to ask him.

You: Did you choose... dusk?

He has already opened my envelope. The dusk on the postcard looked like it's half passionate like fires, and half of it exudes the faint quietness of the night.

Sariel did not answer me directly, but opens his envelope right after.

A white honeysuckle is shrouded by dusk, dyed into redness, complementing with the colors of the clouds in the skies in distant.

Sariel: Still nervous now?

You: ... That's great! I knew you'd choose this one too! Thank you, "dream wedding"!

My mood immediately switched from nervousness to overjoy. I held his hand, and I'm so happy that I am about to jump.

When the results are announced, that I only knew Sariel and I were the only ones completing the challenge, so my mood became even better.

Staff: Congratulations to the both of you! This is your prize, a special version of "Wedding Doll".

I took out two small and delicate wedding dolls from the gift box. They are mascots of Diary, but there are slight adjustments made according to the images of Sariel and mine.

In other words, they are the one and only existence in the world.

Just thinking of this, my heart can't help but to ripple in sweetness.

Staff: Next, you can both take the postcard and participate the activity of the "Post Office of Time" over there, and deliver the words you wish to tell your partner in 10 years' time.

You: Okay, thank you!

Until the moment I sat in front of the table and hold the pen in preparation to write on the postcard, I still couldn't control my overjoyed mood, looking at the dolls on the table as I hummed a tune.

Sariel: Your reactions are exaggerating. Is it that worthy to be happy about?

You: We're the only ones completed the challenge, and the challenge was so difficult, so I think it's fine even if I'm much happier!

As I speak, I placed the two postcards of dusk together on the table, and nodded in satisfaction.

Sariel: What happens if I were to tell you that the postcards we chose are actually not of the same theme?

You: Eh? Aren't these two both dusks?

Sariel shook his head, and pointed the postcard he chose.

Sariel: This is indeed the dusk. But what you chose is the dawn.

You: But they looks about the same...

Sariel: There will be a faint mist during sunrise, and the lights will be softer.

I identified it in detail, and noticed that there is indeed a faint mist lingering around postcard I chose, and the rays of light chosen by Sariel is more blinding.

You: But I remember that there's only this image of sunset on the display board...

Sariel: It's probably because the organizers didn't differentiate it clearly too.

You: Then it means we still succeeded in the challenge, right? Also, after listening to what you said, I am instead thinking that it's even more of a coincidence.

Sariel: What do you mean?

You: From sunrise to sunset, the cycle repeats endlessly. Doesn't this mean that we will be spending every day together in the future? You can just treat it as a blessing from the skies!

A surprised expression exudes from the constantly cold face. Right after, Sariel blinked softly, and a helpless smile exudes from the corners of his lips.

Sariel: ... You're sprouting nonsense again.

You: Let nonsense be nonsense then, it'll be fine as long as you're willing to listen.

I smiled as I picked up the pen, turned the postcard over and begun thinking of what to write.

I wonder, how would we be like, and what will we be doing after ten years have passed?

Upon thinking in detail, ten years doesn't actually seem to be a long time either.

When that happens, it's likely that we will both still working as designers, that we will still be sitting together and be noisy over trivial matters, just like how we are now.

With this in mind, I wrote a sentence.

"I wish that we can also watch sunrises and sunsets together for the next ten years."

Looking up, I noticed that Sariel has also finished writing.

Sariel: Done writing?

You: Yeah.

Sariel: Then let's go, to the mailbox.

There are no limits of the participants for the "Post Office of Time" activity, so there are many people nearby the mailbox.

Worried that I'd be separated from him by the crowd, just when I was about to call out to Sariel, he has already held my hand naturally.

While queueing and waiting for the delivery, I still can't hold back from my curiosity, and asked Sariel a question.

You: Sariel, what did you write?

Sariel: You'll find out after ten years.

His reply is just like a promise. I startled slightly, then nodded in a smile.

You: Yeah, then let's look at them ten years later. Then, can we write again ten years later? Then for the following ten years, and even for the ten years after that...

Sariel: Okay.

Unsure when, but the rays of dusk began to glow in the skies.

Sariel is looking at the postcard in his hand, and the honeysuckle blossom under the sunset is shrouded in faint light.

The white little flower is just like the girl he's holding tightly in his hand, swaying in the faint lights, speaking softly towards him.

She said, it's fine, as long as you bear through the long winter night, the sun will rise.

He has already walked too long in darkness, and finally, he has now waited for the sunrise's arrival.

On every day from now on, in the endless cycle of sunrises and sunsets, it's all ordinary days of happiness.

- Heartthrob (2): To the garden photography zone-

Since it's such a rare opportunity, I think we should take more photos to commemorate this occasion.

You: Sariel, let's head to the garden area. I read the introduction earlier, that the flowers blossoming in this season are all beautiful, it'd definitely be suitable to take photos with them.

Sariel: Taking photos?

You: Yeah, since we're already dressed in wedding attires, we should at least leave something as a memory.

I pretended that I didn't see Sariel's "not quite interested" expression, and dragged him towards the garden.

Upon arrival of the park, that I found out I'm not the only one wanting to take commemorative photos here. The organizer even set up a photography zone with professional photographers.

You: It's crowded here, let's walk a little deeper into the garden.

Walking along the stone-plated path, we walked to the depths of the garden until we don't see any other people around us.

The air in the forest garden is wonderful, that even the soil exudes fragrance. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and feel the gentle breezes caressing my ear.

You: It's so comfortable...

Sariel: So you've walked this far in heels just to enjoy the breeze?

I opened my eyes to notice Sariel gazing at my heels, with a vague feeling of worry exuding from his gaze.

You: It's fine, my feet aren't hurting. Don't worry.

Sariel: ... I wasn't worrying.

You: Okay, understood!

I nodded along, then began examining the scenery around us.

You: Sariel look, the flower over there looks so pretty! Huh, why is there a tiny one by its side, has it not grown yet?

Sariel looked towards the direction I pointed. There are a few round and purple flowers, just like little embroidered balls.

And right beside the "embroidered balls", there is an even smaller flower, leaning into the branches and leave by its side like a child.

Sariel: These are two different types of flowers. The large ones are alliums, and the smaller ones are nepeta, or also called as catnip.

You: So this is the catnip?

I walked towards the side, tidied my hem and squatted down to take a whiff of its fragrance, and I've indeed manage to have a whiff of a faint minty scent.

You: I wonder if there are kittens nearby, I really wanted to test its effectiveness...

I looked around, suddenly recalling something, and smiled as I gazed back on Sariel.

You: Hm, thankfully there aren't any foxnips planted around here.

I wanted to tease him on purpose, but I didn't expect Sariel to only be slightly startled, then blinked right after and acted as if he didn't mind.

Sariel: Let it be if it's planted. Since you're the only person here anyway.

I'm now the one who's shocked, and only to return to my senses after a long time.

You: Can I take that as... you mean "you feel reassured with my presence"?

Sariel: ... Suit yourself. Since the uttered words are spoken, then the rights to decipher its meaning lies in the listener's hands.

You: That's true. What a coincidence, I am an expert when it comes to deciphering "fox language"!

Sariel: You-...

He seemed like he couldn't hold back from saying something, but I quickly took out my phone and aimed the camera towards the alliums, and looked like I'm taking photos seriously.

You: How about we take a photo together? Considering it as a commemorative moment of my first encounter with catnips?

Sariel: I suppose the term "inexperienced"* is designed to describe you.

*Sariel used the phrase 少见多怪 (which basically means how a person overreacts and finds everything fascinating because of the lack of knowledge/ experience in life) to describe MC in multiple occasions, especially phone calls and dates like his birthday card because MC is always looking surprised and at awe at literally anything - and I do mean almost anything lol.

Though that being said, he still walked towards my side.

Sariel: How do you plan to take the picture?

You: Just like this! 3, 2, 1, cheese--

I leaned my head towards Sariel, raised my phone high up, and tapped on the shutter.

The photo I took on my phone is definitely far different from those taken by professional photographers, but this doesn't obstruct my interest and mood at all.

I dragged Sariel as we continued moving forward. Suddenly, a rustle sounded behind us.

Did other people come too?

I thought that it's other couples coming here to take photos, but I turned around to only see an elderly with a fully grey hair.

Her expressions looked like she's a little lost. Upon looking around, could she be looking for somebody?

For an elderly to be here on her own, I can't help but to feel a little worried. Even Sariel is also frowning slightly.

You: Let's have a look over there.

By the time we walked towards the elderly, she's still blinking as she looks towards the ground, so I softly called out to her.

You: Granny, are you okay? Why are you here by yourself?

Elderly: I'm fine, I'm just looking for the place to try wedding gowns, wanting to choose it for my granddaughter--

She tilted her head up and looks at me, stunned all of a sudden, then showed a surprised and puzzled expression.

Elderly: Hey, Yueyue, my good granddaughter, why are you here? When did you choose your wedding gown? Oh dear, you look really gorgeous!

As she spoke, she walked forward and held my hand, asking me to make a swirl, probably wanting to have a clearer look at the details of the hem.

You: Uh, I'm not your granddaughter...

Elderly: Don't simply say things like this! Don't you remember your granny anymore? Huh? This young lad beside you... are you my granddaughter's husband?

You: H- Husband?! No, we aren't in that relationship...!

I shook my hand and waved my arms, flustered, and stuttered as I pronounced that word.

Elderly: He's not? Then why are the two of you dressed in wedding attire, and even ran your way here in this forest?

You: Uh, we...

Uncertain of the reason, I kept having the feeling that what she said sounds odd, but I don't know how to refute her either, so I can only look towards Sariel to seek help.

Sariel lets out a quiet sigh, pondered, then looked towards the elderly.

Sariel: What she means is, we aren't in that relationship for now.

Elderly: Oh right right, I remember now, the two of you haven't had your wedding reception, so it's not easy to change the way of addressing each other.

You: Qi Si Li!

I jolted from shock, and Sariel held my unsettling hand along my helplessness, and explained softly.

Sariel: For her to be here on her own, the sole possibility is for her to have lost her way. I'm just talking along with her topic, so it's convenient to bring her out to look for the staff.

You: ... So that's what you're thinking of.

I nodded, but I didn't feel relieved like how I expected, but only to find it somewhat a pity.

After pulling myself back together, I placed my attention back to the elderly.

You: Uh, granny. Shall we go back to the main exhibition zone? It's more lively over there, look, there aren't much people around here.

Elderly: Oh right, look at me being all old and forgetful, I looked for you on my own, that I left your mom behind. Let's go, let's look for her.

So she's not here on her own. Hearing this, I immediately turned my head towards Sariel, and he nodded.

Sariel: Let's go.

I coincidentally saw Hana when we returned to the main exhibition zone, and immediately explained the elderly's situation towards her.

Hana: Understood. We'll be in charge of taking her to her family member.

She walked towards the elderly, explained her identity as a staff, and just when she mentioned that she's going to bring her to find her family member, the elderly immediately looked saddened.

Elderly: What do you mean? My granddaughter is right here, we'll just wait for our daughter here. Why should I leave with you?

Hana then attempted to persuade a little further, but it was of no avail. I watched as I begin to feel worried, and I ended up patting Hana's shoulder.

You: It's alright, you guys can look for her family member. We'll stay here to accompany her.

Hana: Then we'll trouble you to that, we'll try our best to be as quick as possible.

Sariel: Let's take a seat in the powder room for some rest then.

You: Okay.

I supported the elderly, getting ready to bring her over. Thankfully, she is very trusting towards me, that she would listen to whatever I say.

We sat on the sofa to rest in the powder room. As soon as we took our seat, the elderly spoke.

Elderly: Xiao Qi*, you're pretty attentive. You can see that I'm a little tired from standing, and you knew how to lead us here for some rest.

*Sariel's last name is Qi, and Xiao Qi is like "Little Sariel".

You: Xiao Qi... Pfft.

I only managed to respond after being stunned, and became unable to hold back from bursting out in laughter. Sariel's expression, however, looked a little uncomfortable.

Sariel (speaking softly): What are you laughing at, don't laugh.

You: Okay okay, I... I won't laugh haha...

Elderly: What are the two of you whispering about, you looked so happy. Speaking of it, I haven't heard about Xiao Qi's career, how much do you earn every month? Is it enough for her to spend?

This question is indeed a little too difficult for Sariel, I quickly controlled my smiling lips, and helped him out.

You: Granny, I have my own salary, it's enough for me to spend.

Elderly: That's different, the money he spends on you is a display of his feelings. Xiao Qi, I'm asking you a question.

Obviously, "Xiao Qi" has never experience a "deliberate trouble" like this, with an unhappy expression, it took him quite a while to speak.

Sariel: I'm a designer, on a monthly basis, I earn...

I am guessing that he has minimal sense of money, so he would definitely not check his payslip at the end of month.

Sariel signalled at me with his gaze, I feel like it's actually my first time seeing "help me" from his gaze.

Forcefully holding back from smiling, I began explaining.

You: Granny, he actually doesn't know very clearly, because he'll leave his salary to me every month.

Elderly: I see, then you should've said it early! Not bad, not bad, young lad, you have a very high consciousness, you should be quite reliable!

You: Yeah, I think so too, Director Qi is really reliable.

Uncertain if it's my misperception, but Sariel's body that just relaxed became tensed again for an instant.

Elderly: Ah, so he's a director, then he's really not bad. Hey, tell me, when did you start dating? Why don't you tell granny, that you had to only tell me when you're about to get married?

A sliver of dejection exudes from the elderly's tone. She held my hand, palm a little coarse, but it's very warm.

Looking at her old yet gentle gaze, I remembered about my late grandmother, and I can't help but to respond to her softly.

You: It's because I've been too busy that I've forgotten about it, I wasn't hiding it from you on purpose.

Elderly: It's fine. It's not late to tell me now too, granny will listen slowly. How did the two of you get to know each other?

You: We...

Just when I was contemplating if I should fabricate a simple and sweet, or a poetic and touching story to make the elderly happy, Sariel has spoken.

Sariel: We met very early on, but we got acquainted in a competition.

I became a little surprised. Sariel actually gotten used to his identity as a "grandson in law", but I still nodded along.

You: Yeah, back then, I was a participant, and he's a judge. I was thinking of granny, and made a hat, but I ended up being criticized by him.

Sariel: ... It wasn't criticism, I just hoped for her to improve from there. Because she is a very talented designer, and she is very passionate towards design.

Is this how Sariel views me? I listened quietly, that I feel a little bashful.

Elderly: Then Xiao Qi, when did you start to fall for my granddaughter? And what do you like about her?

My heart thumps nervously. I looked at Sariel, but he doesn't look like he's planning to avoid this question, but began to ponder seriously.

Sariel: Perhaps the time she visited me when I was sick, and perhaps it's when she looked for me when she made a new hat*, or perhaps... even earlier than that.

*References to Main Story Chapter 4-09Chapter 2-08, and fragments of his past memories in Chapter 12's Light End.

The little things of the past, seemed to have all resurfaced before my eyes along with Sariel's narration.

Sariel: As for what I like about her... I like everything about her, very much.

I don't know what to say, only to feel my heart swelling, filled with a certain type of warm emotion.

The elderly showed a satisfied smile, holding my hand, and gestured Sariel to reach an arm out.

She overlapped our hands together, and gently patted on the back o my hand.

Elderly: My good granddaughter, answer one last question from granny.

You: Granny*...

*For those of you who might not know, MC lost her mother and grandmother before she turns 18, and she is not in a good relationship with her father. She has strong attachments to her late grandmother, and her grandmother is the first reason why she learnt sewing. While the elderly isn’t her grandmother, she definitely reminds her of her late grandma.

I can't hold back from calling her, nodded, and feeling a little teary.

Elderly: Is he treating you well?

The gentle gaze from the elderly reflects the figures of Sariel and me, and I heard my affirmative voice.

You: There won't be anyone else that treats me better than he does.

The elderly exclaimed in satisfaction, and smiles as she gazes towards Sariel.

Elderly: From now on, I'll leave my granddaughter to you.

Sariel: Okay.

A very simple word, but he spoke it so seriously, and so solemnly.

Our overlapped palms held tightly together, then turned into interlocked fingers.

I pursed my lips, and held back towards the dry yet warm large hand, trying my best to not let my tears fall.

Just then, a click sounded from the door.

Hana ran into the room like a gale, with a middle-aged woman followed beside her.

Hana: We've found the elderly's daughter!

I quickly raised my hand to wipe the corners of my eyes and stood up from the sofa with Sariel, allowing the middle-aged woman to sit beside the elderly.

Middle-aged woman: Mom, why did you walk away from me when I didn't pay attention? You almost scared me to death!

Elderly: What are you so scared for? I've been with my granddaughter throughout all these while, nothing will happen anyway.

Middle-aged woman: Huh? What granddaughter?

You: Uh, actually...

We explained the story of our encounter with the elderly, that she nodded towards us in embarrassment.

Middle-aged woman: Sigh, actually... my daughter passed away half a year ago. She missed her too much that she fell ill, so she would sometimes hold onto people and address them as "good granddaughter". And you are coincidentally dressed in a wedding gown... During the period of time when my daughter passed, she was coincidentally preparing for her wedding.

You: ... So that's how it all happened.

Middle-aged woman: I'm terribly sorry, we've caused you trouble. Alright, mom, let's hurry and go home.

Elderly: Go where?! My good granddaughter's wedding ceremony is about to begin, of course I had to leave after participating it!

Middle-aged woman: There's no wedding ceremony, don't trouble others anymore.

Elderly: They are already dressed, if they aren't having a wedding then what are they doing?

The two bickered in front of the sofa, neither managed to convince the other. Looking at the stuck situation, I pondered, then interrupted them.

You: We... can probably have a simple "wedding ceremony".

Everyone's gaze fell on me, that my cheeks subconsciously flustered a little, but I still looked towards Sariel, and inquired him with a serious gaze.

Sariel: Understood.

So, preparations for this sudden "wedding ceremony" has begun.

Hana found a spare exhibition hall for us to use as a venue, the make up artist helped us to find a pair of plain rings, and the photographer is being dragged at the last minute to be a "impersonated" priest.

There are also other colleagues that I am not acquainted to, or tourists that are attracted here occasionally. They are all seated in the exhibition hall, sending their wishes to us.

The wedding ceremony has finally begun. I walked along the melodies of the wedding march, and walked towards Sariel's side step by step.

We were clearly still facing each other a few minutes ago, but upon glancing at him in a scene like this, it still makes my heart to beat vigorously in an uncontrollable manner.

The "priest" stuttered as he reads the vows beside us, and my heartbeat accelerates over each word he said.

At the moment where I said "I do", I could feel my brain went into a complete blank.

Sariel: Don't be nervous.

Probably having himself seeing through my emotions, Sariel comforted me softly. I nodded, and tried my best to take in a few deep breaths.

The first segment has ended smoothly, and next it's the vows from the groom and bride.

Sariel gazes towards me, and the pair of familiar golden pupils are flowing with an emotion that is somehow different from usual times.

Sariel: I solemnly pledge to take you to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us apart.

My heart seemed to have contracted violently.

In a trance, I recalled the question from the elderly, and also my answer in the powder room.

This person before my eyes, is the person that treats me the best in the entire world, and he is also the person that I like, and love the most.

Closing my eyes, I have also said my vow.

You: I solemnly pledge to take you to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us apart.

Cheers sounded from the audience. We took out the rings, and even though it's just the simplest ring, but I felt like I could see the dazzling gleams on it.

Amidst the blessings from everyone, we put on the rings for each other. At last, there's only the last segment left in this wedding ceremony.

"Priest": I have now witnessed your exchange in vows to love each other, and I am honored to announce the two of you as husband and wife. Now, the groom may kiss the bride.

Ba-dum, ba-dum.

I heard my heartbeat. As Sariel leans in, it beats quicker and quicker.

You: A- Are we really going to... in this crowd...

The scorching breath sprinkles on my face. I heard Sariel's voice, from a very, very close distance.

Sariel: You were the one that proposed it, that you wanted to have a "wedding ceremony" with me.

You: I know, but... how about just kissing on the cheek?

Since there are so many people here, I still feel embarrassed after all.

You: Uh, or I'll just close my eyes, then you can...

Just when I closed my eyes and pretend to not see everyone, I heard a soft sigh by my ear.

Then, a kiss falls onto my cheek.

Cheers and applauses echoed across the hall. I slowly opened my eyes, touched my cheek, then stunned as I looked towards Sariel.

Sariel: The ceremony has ended. What are you looking at me for?

I shook my head, and I'm still feeling somewhat in a trance.

In the midst of the exhorts from the elderly and gratitude from her family, we sent them off at the park's entrance.

You: I didn't expect acting would be so tiring, I wanted to rest...

After being busy in high heels, I'm really feeling a little tired.

We walked past a forest on our way back to the main exhibition. Coincidentally seeing a swing, I sat right on it, and tilted my head up to look into the skies.

Sariel walked towards my side, not uttering a word, and also looking towards the skies.

You: Sariel, why did you only... kiss my cheek just now?

Sariel: Weren't you the one asking me to do so? You said it, and I agreed to it. It's that simple.

I didn't expect it to be an answer like this, and a tint of scarlet quietly climbed over my face.

You: Then... would you agree to anything I say?

Sariel: You can try telling me first.

I tilted my head as I think about it, then spoke slowly.

You: Actually, the "wedding ceremony" just now is very much similar to the wedding ceremony I imagined. With family and friends around us, me dressing in a gown I designed, and take vows with the person I love. So I hope, for the... wedding ceremony... we'll have in the future, to be the same as today.

I paused, but I still managed to say the two words of "wedding ceremony". At least, right at this moment, I don't wish to be unable to deliver my thoughts to him because of my shyness.

But I am still not daring enough to look at Sariel's expression directly, only burying my head, and pretending to look at the flowers on the ground.

Sariel: Are you saying that everything has to be the same as today?

You: ... Can't I?

Sariel: It's not like it can't happen. But besides the people here today, you would still have to invite the big group of your colleagues from Group A, no?

Slightly stunned, I looked up immediately, incapable of concealing my joy.

You: Yeah! Not only from Group A, but also other colleagues and friends! Ah, of course also inviting Qi She and Lady Huai*.

*Qi She is name of the 'lizard', and Lady Huai is an Erda in Rainy Island, where Sariel is from (you can read in his birthday card).

Sariel: With this many people, there won't be enough seats in the hall today.

You: Then let's change to a bigger venue, it's the best to be in a flower field, with lake, breezes, and birdsongs...

I spoke endlessly, and Sariel is only looking at me quietly, but a faint smile fills his gaze.

Sariel: Then what about the ceremony? Completely the same too?

You: Eh? Isn't that good?

Sariel: I think there's somewhere that can be improved in the ceremony earlier.

He raised an arm to hold onto the swing's rope, and meets right into my gaze.

On the next second, a smudge of warmth arrives my lips.

What lingers by my nose is a scent of an unknown flower, then covered by the scent of sandalwood within a close reach.

By my ear, I could hear the clear birdsongs sounding from afar, and our intertwined breaths.

Sariel holds my cheeks, moving in a rare, stiff manner, but this kiss from him, however, is filled with tenderness.

I can't help but to close my eyes.

Allowing him to lead me, little by little, filling my breath, my mind, and my everything.

I don't know how long time has passed, until it becomes a little difficult to breathe, that our lips finally parted.

I panted softly, but I still can't hold back from reaching my arms out, and encircled Sariel's neck.

Sariel: Hm?

With no additional questioning, he too, encircled my waist, and lowered his gaze.

You: I wanted to look at you...

Sariel: You've looked so many times already, still not enough?

I shook my head, but still tilted my head up, and looked at him almost stubbornly.

I looked at Sariel, watching the shapes of his brows and eyes, the outline of his nose bridge, and the curves of his lips.

It's as though he has always been gazing on me, that I too, wanted to keep gazing at him, until the very end, and until death do us apart.

In the past, I used to feel that Sariel is just like a mist, or some smoke. Perhaps there will be a day he will disappear, and return to where he belongs.

It's exactly because of this, that I have always been unable to hold back from being noisy around him. I hope this liveliness from me could keep him here.

Only when I call out to his name, smell the scent of his, and hold his hand, that I can be certain that he is by my side.

But it feels like this thought of mine has been wrong since the very beginning.

Even if Sariel is really just a puff of smoke, or a cloud, but as long as I need him, he will always stay by my side.

You: Sariel, Sariel...

Sariel: Mm, I'm here.

I used all my might to hug him.

You: I hope, you can stay by my side forever.

He didn't answer me, only to hold my cheeks once again.

My heart that has been worrying throughout all these while, is now filled with a kiss.

Because I know, this is a promise, a pledge, and a proof that he will walk the journey with me forever.

- Common Ending -

Unknowingly, the night has fallen, and the park event today has ended too.

Sariel and I changed into our clothes, and just when we walked out of the main exhibition zone, we suddenly saw a wall of photos, with a few tourists looking at the wall, seemingly searching for something.

Upon approaching closer, I noticed that there are many polaroids on the wall. They are probably all taken by the staff, and all of the photos are couples that are testing out the wedding attires.

You: Sariel, it says that we can find our photos and bring them back as a commemorative token. Let's look for ours too!

I tiptoed and stretched my neck as I begin my search. Suddenly, someone held my waist gently.

Sariel: Just look at what's before you, I'll search what's above.

As he speaks, he stood behind me, raised his arm and began searching.

The faint scent of sandalwood envelops me within, separating me from the outside world surrounding me.

Subconsciously, my heartbeat accelerated a little. I tried to calm myself for a while, and began searching for the photo with him.

Gaze skimming quickly, I noticed that every photo seems to look like a short story.

There are couples that look very young, perhaps only in their twenties, smiling sweetly, and it looks like they are probably going to be wedded soon.

Some, are already of an old age, but still smiling brilliantly and happily, filled with hope towards the rest of their life.

But there are also some exceptions between the photos. For instance, there's a middle-aged couple that probably had gotten into a conflict throughout the fitting process, facing each other with their backs, but they can't help but to peek at each other from the corners of their eyes.

I searched as I admire these photographs. Suddenly, two familiar figures appeared at a corner of my line of gaze.

You: Sariel, look, is that photo...

Before I can finish, Sariel has already bent down and retrieved that photo.

In the photo, I'm holding my hem with a hand, with another holding Sariel's. Looking a little nervous, but it's filled with more anticipation.

And Sariel, who was standing by my side, is steadily holding my palm, quietly waiting, and a rare display of gentleness filled his golden pupils.

Although it's obviously a snapshot, but the moment I saw it, my heart still can't help but to feel extremely soft.

You: It's such a good photo.

Sariel: Mm, it's indeed a good photo.

After taking a pause, I gazed up towards the other photos on the wall, and I can't help but to feel a little curious.

You: Sariel, what do you think we'll be like in the future? Will we be the same as them, bickering occasionally, or will we always remain by each other's side? Or just like this photo, where it looks very harmonious and happy?

I simply pointed towards two of the photos. Sariel took a glance at them, then shook his head.

Sariel: We will be neither of them. Different individuals will different ways to express love. We will only be who we are, no matter how long it'll pass, we will never be like others. Our current state like this... I think it's very good.

Blinking intently, I looked towards the surrounding tourists. I noticed that although everyone looks happy, but upon looking more carefully, it feels different too.

There are so much ways to express affection in this love, they might perhaps be enthusiastic, perhaps tender, and there are even times where it might perhaps be obscure.

But regardless the method of expression, they are all good methods, and they are all happy.

You: Yeah, from now on, it's fine for us to just continue as we are.

The clear moonlight pours over us. But wonderfully, I don't find the moonlight cold at all.

Instead, it's way warmer, gentler than any other sunlight, and it has shaped into the happiest memories in the deepest part of my mind.
